Finding the Right Words

In a quick glance I saw
A single bird in the early spring glow
Sitting perched on the tip of a worn roof
Staring at me through my window

Grounded on the slopping tiles
The songs of morning flutter though the air
While he sits perched almost silently
Thinking pensive thoughts with care

A flutter above, a swoop from below
The other birds chatter with glee
While he sits on the roof, unaffected by the rest
Trying to figure out me

I looked down for a moment to write down this poem
To find him gone away
Such transient connections rarely last long enough
To find the right words to say
